Photography - Photography Gallery Crawl
10.30 am at National Maritime Museum, Saturday 9th October 2010
Cost: NIL

A chance to visit 5 excellent photo exhibitions in one day! Suggested venues are National Maritime Museum - 3 exhibitions, then Pt Light Gallery in nearby Surry Hills then Meyer Gallery in Darlinghurst. Can meet for morning coffee and light lunch in between - eg Darling Harbour precinct or outdoor cafe at NMM then a Surry Hills cafe for lunch.

Paper Arts - ENCAUSTIC PAINTING
10am - 4pm, Sat & Sun September 11 - 12
Cost: Member $140, non-member $160 includes $15 materials fee.

This is a slight departure from our usual paper related art techniques although the process can be done on paper. Once the medium of the ancient Greeks, Encaustic Painting has now experienced a resurgence in the contemporary art community. Hot molten beeswax, pigments and tree resin make up your pallet as you create luminous textures with an infinite number of techniques. Mo will concentrate on imparting many encaustic techniques as well as sharing her unique approach to this technique. After a brief overview of the history and process, students will undertake on their own works. Mo will provide demonstrations and hands on experience covering: fusion, painting, carving, incising, use of oil sticks, collaging, photo underlays and photo image transfers. You will find additional images of Mo's work on our News Blog and also on www.rebubble.com/people/mogodbeer. A materials fee will cover the cost of the beeswax, resin and four woodblocks 20cm x 22.5cm. A further materials list will be sent before the workshop.

Photography - Cyanotype Printing Workshop

Learn how to make cyanotype prints on watercolour paper, rice paper and fabric.

Cyanotype was one of the earliest photographic printing processes. A Prussian blue is formed when a mixture of certain iron salts are exposed to a strong UV light source. In 1991 Wendy completed a Graduate Diploma specialising in 19th Century photographic printing processes, and has been fascinated by them ever since. She will show you how to make images from digital or analogue negatives, photograms from objects such as leaves, lace, feathers, glass and many more.

This workshop is a totally engaging hands-on experience, involving the participant from the choice and preparation of paper, until the moment the image is revealed. Wendy will also show you how to achieve a subtle variety of shades with various toning techniques.

This workshop is adaptable for participants of all levels of experience. Lots of one-on-one coaching.
