CLASSES

Bookbinding at Primrose Park follows the traditional methods of the craft similar to the course taught at TAFE Ultimo. The full Primrose Bookbinding course runs over four terms of nine weeks each.

Term 1 covers the traditional techniques of sewing and binding a book including pamphlet sewing, multi section sewing for square back and round back books, including sewing on tapes and cords for a book with raised bands on the spine. Binding methods will include full bound, half bound and quarter bound books.

Term 2 will examine the various uses of the concertina format and will include photo albums and presentation boxes.   Where appropriate slip covers and other methods of protection for books will be included.

Term 3 will cover a number of historical styles including Coptic, Islamic and Oriental books.

Term 4 will introduce you to longstitch / linkstitch techniques which give decorative spine finishes and which can be applied to various artist’s books.

Classes will be held at the Primrose Park Art & Craft Centre, Matora Lane, off Lower Young Street, Cremorne on Tuesday evenings from 6pm – 9pm

Costs

The cost per term is $315 plus $15 for materials.  This may be paid in two amounts.  Before week 1 - $140 plus $15 materials (total $155), with the second installment of $175 to be paid before week 5.

The materials fee will cover all materials for week 1 plus notes, paste, glue, tapes, and boards used in class.
