Workshops and Events
The Primrose Park time-sharing arrangements give us the opportunity to offer several workshops each month as well as school holiday programs and special workshops involving visiting tutors. Our planned workshops are detailed below. If you would like more information, please email us at paperarts@primrose-park.com.au
Papermaking is a great activity for schoolchildren, and they love our school holiday workshops. The list below changes, of course, but you should find some interesting children's workshops for the next school holidays.
You can download an enrolment form for any of these workshops by clicking HERE
| ENCAUSTIC PAINTING |
| 10am - 4pm, Sat & Sun September 11 - 12 |
This is a slight departure from our usual paper related art techniques although the process can be done on paper. Once the medium of the ancient Greeks, Encaustic Painting has now experienced a resurgence in the contemporary art community. Hot molten beeswax, pigments and tree resin make up your pallet as you create luminous textures with an infinite number of techniques. Mo will concentrate on imparting many encaustic techniques as well as sharing her unique approach to this technique. After a brief overview of the history and process, students will undertake on their own works. Mo will provide demonstrations and hands on experience covering: fusion, painting, carving, incising, use of oil sticks, collaging, photo underlays and photo image transfers. You will find additional images of Mo's work on our News Blog and also on www.rebubble.com/people/mogodbeer. A materials fee will cover the cost of the beeswax, resin and four woodblocks 20cm x 22.5cm. A further materials list will be sent before the workshop. |

| TIPS & TRICKS FOR MONOTYPES |
| 10am - 3pm, Monday October 25 |
This workshop will introduce and explore basic printing techniques developed by Paul Gaugin called trace monotype. This is an easy process and consists of inking a surface, layering paper over it and drawing over the surface to receive ink in a linear manner. Paul Klee also used this method for his drawings. Only one strong impression can be taken using oil based inks in a low toxicity environment. We can also explore possibilities for the use of chine colle (collage) with handmade papers, rice and mulberry papers. A materials list will be sent but studio inks and equipment will be available for which a small materials fee is charged. THIS IS A MEMBER ONLY WORKSHOP. |

| EXPLORING THE SURFACE: MAKING PRINTING PLATES |
| 10am - 4pm, Sat & Sun November 13-14 |
In this workshop participants will play with ways of preparing plates for printing using cardboard, perspex and acetate. It is possible to use these plates as background texture, overprinting, or combined with etching plates and monoprints. We will use gesso and glue to add texture, remove layers and make marks on the surface to create lines and ink free areas when rolling up the plate. Other materials and techniques will be used and explored during the workshop. A small materials fee is included to cover inks and other disposables. A further materials list will be sent two weeks before the workshop. |
